What is Manual Therapy?
Manual Therapy involves the use of ‘hands-on’ treatments to improve:
- range of motion
- muscle and nerve function
It includes a variety of techniques including:
- joint mobilization/manipulation
- massage - soft tissue release techniques
- muscle energy technique
- nerve mobilization
- instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM)
How can it help?
A detailed comprehensive history taking and physical assessment is the key to using a manual therapy approach. This approach takes into account both the physical and non-physical factors (your beliefs and thoughts) to identify the underlying ‘driver(s)’ for your problem.
In addition to ‘hands on’ techniques, specific exercises will be prescribed to maintain benefits from each session. You will also be advised on how to modify your activities and/or the use of equipment to help with your recovery.
